چکیده
This article provides a new approach to inference the best explanation (IBE) based on coherence measure for comparing how well hypotheses explain evidence. It addresses number of criticisms use probabilistic measures in this context by Glymour ([2015]), including limitations earlier work IBE (Glass [2012]). Computer experiments are used show that finds truth with high degree accuracy hypothesis selection tasks and some cases its is greater than maximizing posterior probability. Hence, overcoming problems previous approach, more adequate defence suggests not only tracks but also has practical advantages over approach. Applications parameter estimation model explored.

Enhancing Explanation Coherence With Rhetorical Strategies
This paper discusses the application of a previously reported theory of explanation rhetoric (Maybury, 1988b) to the task of explaining constraint violations in a hybrid rule/frame based system for resource allocation (Dawson et al, 1987). This research illustrates how discourse strategies of explanation, textual connectives, and additional justification knowledge can be applied to enhance the ...
متن کاملONSET: Automated Foundational Ontology Selection and Explanation
It has been shown that using a foundational ontology for domain ontology development is beneficial in theory and practice. However, developers have difficulty with choosing the appropriate foundational ontology, and why. In order to solve this problem, a comprehensive set of criteria that influence foundational ontology selection has been compiled and the values for each parameter determined fo...
متن کاملCoherence measures and inference to the best explanation
This paper considers an application of work on probabilistic measures of coherence to inference to the best explanation (IBE). Rather than considering information reported from different sources, as is usually the case when discussing coherence measures, the approach adopted here is to use a coherence measure to rank competing explanations in terms of their coherence with a piece of evidence. B...

Mean number of trials required by POSTHOC In POSTHOC, we have focused on how prior knowledge influences learning rates and we have so far ignored other information used by human learners (e.g., perceptual salience of features, Bower & Trabasso, 1968). As a consequence, POSTHOC is not intended ...
